juli is launching soon!

We are 3 weeks away from launching our closed beta. Right now, we’re oscillating between fear and pride. Before you can lay hands on the juli app, let us take you with us on our journey to this point.

Bettina Hein, one of the four founders, is a serial entrepreneur. As CEO of Pixability she spent a decade building software that ingested massive amounts of data and applied artificial intelligence to optimize video advertising. While that was a lot of fun, she wanted to do more with her knowledge - she wanted to help people improve their lives and their health. Ever the tech and gadget geek, she dreamed up a vision where all of our device data, our health records, even our DNA analyses come together in one app

At that point two other founders joined the team: Joris Straatman, also a serial entrepreneur and tech wizard with a broad experience in health tech. And me, the other Bettina: Bettina Duehrkoop. I’ve always been and always will be a marketer. For 25 years I’ve marketed everything from books over tire rims to broadband.

Together the three of us shaped the idea towards an app that would allow people with chronic conditions to monitor their health status and find patterns to help them improve their life for the better. We believe firmly that artificial intelligence can help nudge us towards better health.

We met as a team for the first time on March 12th. Three days later, we went into lockdown. So juli became a remote company from the very beginning. We still don’t have an office but meet socially distanced every few weeks - when the pandemic situation allows.

In May, our fourth co-founder, the great Dr. Joe Hayes joined our team. He is a psychiatrist and researcher who works and teaches at UCL in London. For years his research has explored the intersection between data science, machine learning and medicine, an area that fits perfectly with our long-term goal: finding the levers that help people with chronic conditions.

It’s been 7 months since this very decisive meeting in March. Since then we’ve spent numerous hours shaping the idea into an app. It’s a minimalist version of our grand vision, as most MVPs are, but it will give you an idea of where we’re going. And we won’t stop here, this is just the beginning. The next rounds of concept work, design and software development are already in planning. We are looking forward to sharing this journey with you and are hoping for your active help and participation.

We therefore have a small ask: Would you like to be part of our closed beta user group? We decided to start with three pilot conditions: asthma, depression and bipolar disorder. If you or someone you know has one of these conditions, we’d love to include you. You can sign up here and we’ll get in touch once we’ve launched.

In health,

Bettina, Bettina, Joris and Joe

aka - the juli Team.
