Managing chronic condition better
juli supports people with chronic health conditions like asthma, migraine, depression, bipolar disorder, hypertension, or chronic pain through a number of evidence based approaches. juli is here to help.
We integrate information that might have an impact on a condition:
data tracked passively through your smartphone
data tracked passively through your smartwatch or other wearables
environmental data (weather, air pollution, pollen)
self-reported data (a few questions asked in the app, relevant to your condition)
Then we help users identify how these factors have an impact. This allows users to pinpoint factors that make their condition worse, and factors that make things better; putting them back in control. Find out more about the different sections of juli on this page.
The Dashboard
The data screen allows a full overview of these factors and provides a one-glance summary of the day: How was your sleep? How’s the pollen? How active have you been? How has your heart rate changed? These factors could already be an indicator of your wellbeing today. Additionally, we show you the trend over the last 7 days for each of these factors, so you can see any changes.
«Self-tracking has been shown to reduce symptoms across a range of chronic conditions.»
Most data types have a second level where we go a lot deeper. To see this type of data, click on the widget. Here you can see things in a lot more detail: How is a particular factor related to your condition? How do different factors relate to your mood? How are your sleep and activity related?
«This is where you can dig into the details of your data to determine exacerbating and relieving factors, the first step in taking control of your life!»
The data types that we show are hand-picked by our medical advisor and co-founder, Dr. Joseph Hayes from UCL. They are the most relevant factors for your condition, no matter whether that is migraine, depression, or asthma, based on the best available current scientific evidence and absolutely worth tracking.
Data that we track passively through your smartphone can be managed in Apple Health. In order for it to be shown in juli, you need to activate it there. Menstrual cycle or your weight can only be changed there.
Other digital devices, like smartwatches or digital scales are normally also connected to Apple health. From there the data is automatically fed to juli.
Medication
**it is estimated that over 50% of medication is not taken as prescribed**
One of the most important factors in maintaining good health is taking your medication as prescribed. We know this can be a major challenge. This is why we set up a special function in juli, that will remind you to take your medication and enable you to track whether you took it. In the medication section you can see the relationship between your medication intake and your condition.
We will ask you during the onboarding whether you take medication and what time you would like a reminder from juli. You may change these settings at any time in the profile section.
juli provides persistent but subtle reminders that accommodate life's unpredictable distractions and removes the stress of remembering your medication.
Chat
Chat is where juli connects with you every day to see how you’re doing. We will ask you a couple of questions related to your condition to see how your day has been. How’s your mood? Did you have an asthma attack? Any problems with your condition? How much does your chronic pain keep you from doing activities today? The questions vary depending on your condition.
The questions are scientifically proven to help assess your condition-related wellbeing. Every two weeks they are augmented with a longer questionnaire, a standardized tool to monitor your situation long-term. Our questionnaires are also used by physicians around the world. They complement the data that we source through passive sensing and the data you enter on a daily basis.
If you choose to track more factors you may set this during onboarding or later in the profile section. You probably know better than us whether alcohol or cigarette consumption have an impact on you, or whether the hours spent outdoors are more relevant. You can also track the factors that are relevant to you via the daily questions and then see your answers in the data dashboard for improved visibility of these factors over time.
In the profile section you may adjust the settings for the chat questions: the timing to be asked and the additional factor tracking.
The Daily Dares
The Daily Dares feature is our way of turning evidence based treatments into a game! We bring together elements from behavioral activation, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, self-compassion and therapeutic education.
It is well known that everyone should pay attention to their nutrition, activity, sleep, and overall well being. But for people with chronic health conditions these small wellness choices can have a big impact on health. So as your partner in lifelong wellness, juli will inspire you in all the facets of wellness, and to take small daily steps towards living your best life!
Many of us need a little motivational support to improve our well being every day regarding sleep, activity, nutrition, and wellness. Daily Dares are intended to move you towards more positive behaviours in a fun and lighthearted way.
We did lots of research on what helps people with chronic conditions be more healthy. We took that research and developed small actionable steps that you can take TODAY.
Profile
he profile section is where you manage your juli account. You can see and edit your name, email address or other details about your condition that you entered during onboarding.
This is also the place where you can set the time at which juli will remind you to answer a few daily questions or to take your medication.
juli tracks a lot of data automatically, passively sensed by your phone or your smartwatch. But our standard tracking options aren't for you after all? No problem. Try out a feature that allows you to add your own customized factors to track. Track chocolate bar consumption, number of times you’ve gone hiking, hours binging on reruns of Seinfeld – whatever you like. Because you know best what aspects of your lifestyle might be relevant to your well-being.
Our Story
juli was founded in 2020, right at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic by a group of people that wanted to use their knowledge about big data for a better cause. Some of the founders suffer from a chronic condition themselves and have been on the lookout for many years to find out what triggers episodes and what helps to get better.
